Travel Vaccine Information
Travel vaccines help protect you from diseases that are more common in certain parts of the world. They’re recommended based on where you’re going, how long you’ll stay, what you’ll be doing, and your health history. Some of the recommended vaccines areroutine (you should already have them in the U.S.) and some are recommended based on the risk level at your destination. There are even a few that are required for entry into certain countries. We recommend contacting us early to help you best prepare to travel and stay healthy.
FAQ
▪ Q: When is the best time to get the recommended vaccines before my trip?
▪ A: It’s best to get travel vaccines 4–8 weeks before your trip to
allow time for protection to build.
▪ Q: How do I know what vaccines I need?
▪ A: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) travel website is the gold standard for country-specific guidance, but some vaccines are dependent on destination country (and rural vs urban), length of stay, activities (e.g., hiking, medical work), and age & health conditions. We understand this information can be confusing, so we are here to help break this down for you and help you understand what you may need.
▪ Q: Are travel vaccines required or just recommended?
▪ A: Some are required for entry (like Yellow Fever in certain countries), but most are recommended to protect your health.
▪ Q: Will my insurance cover travel vaccines?
▪ A: Travel vaccines are often not covered because they are considered "elective.” Some (like Hep A/B) may be covered under preventive benefits. We will attempt to bill your insurance at the time of administration and provide you with your copay or the cash price prior to giving you the vaccine(s).
▪ Q: What is the Yellow Fever vaccine and why is it required for entry for some countries?
▪ A: The Yellow Fever vaccine protects against Yellow Fever, a serious viral infection spread by infected mosquitoes in parts of Africa and South America. It is a live, single-dose vaccine that generally provides lifetime protection. It can only be given at an approved vaccination center; True Pharmacy is one of these authorized sites.
